Introduction to arts-based occupational therapy
Introductory self-paced course | $39
A practical starting point for occupational therapists who are curious about bringing creative occupations into their practice.
This introductory course explores what arts-based occupational therapy is, how it differs from art therapy and how creative activities can be used with clearer purpose and clinical reasoning. It offers a gentle introduction to connecting arts-based approaches with a person’s goals, needs, preferences and meaningful occupations.
This course may be helpful if you:
Are new to arts-based occupational therapy
Want to understand where creative approaches fit within OT scope
Feel unsure about introducing creative activities into sessions
Want to move beyond choosing activities without a clear therapeutic purpose
Support people who find verbal communication difficult or limiting
Want a flexible and accessible introduction before exploring the comprehensive course
You do not need to be artistic or have previous experience using arts-based approaches.
The course is informed by Tessa Lloyd’s work as a mental health occupational therapist and her postgraduate education in Art Psychotherapy. It is designed for occupational therapists and does not qualify participants to practise as art therapists or Art Psychotherapists.
Begin exploring how creativity can support expression, reflection, regulation, identity and meaningful participation within occupational therapy practice.
