Arts-Based Approaches in Occupational Therapy
Comprehensive self-paced course for $99
Move beyond simply adding creative activities to sessions and learn how to use arts-based approaches with clearer purpose, confidence and clinical reasoning.
This comprehensive course is designed for occupational therapists who want to understand why, when and how creative occupations can be used within therapeutic practice. It explores how arts-based approaches can support expression, communication, identity, regulation, reflection and meaningful participation, while remaining grounded in occupational therapy scope.
Rather than providing a list of activities to use with every client, the course encourages you to consider the person, their goals, preferences, environment and occupational needs. It will help you connect creative activities with assessment, formulation and purposeful intervention.
This course may be helpful if you:
Want to introduce arts-based approaches into your practice
Already use creative activities but want stronger clinical reasoning behind them
Want to ensure your sessions remain occupation-focused rather than activity-led
Support people who find verbal communication difficult or limiting
Want adaptable ideas rather than rigid scripts
Would like greater clarity around consent, scope and ethical practice
Enjoy reflective, creative and self-paced professional learning
You do not need to be artistic or have previous experience using arts-based approaches.
The course is informed by Tessa Lloyd’s work as a mental health occupational therapist and her postgraduate education in Art Psychotherapy. It is designed specifically for occupational therapists and does not qualify participants to practise as art therapists or Art Psychotherapists.
Explore arts-based occupational therapy in a way that is thoughtful, ethical, creative and grounded in meaningful occupation.
