Occupational Therapy with Arts-Based Approaches
Supporting Mental Health through creativity and meaningful occupation
At Our Mindful Youth, I offer Occupational Therapy services that thoughtfully integrate creative and arts-based approaches into mental health support for adolescents, young adults, and adults. Creativity can provide a different way of exploring experiences that may be difficult to put into words. Through art making, journalling, photography, storytelling, collage, visual goal setting, and other creative activities, individuals can develop greater self-awareness, emotional insight, confidence, and engagement in everyday life.
My training and approach
My interest in integrating creative approaches into Occupational Therapy led me to complete postgraduate training in Art Psychotherapy. Through this training, I explored how creative expression can support mental health, emotional wellbeing, and personal growth.
Since then, I have continued to adapt and integrate the most valuable elements of this learning into an Occupational Therapy framework. This allows clients to access creative, engaging, and evidence-informed therapeutic experiences while maintaining a strong focus on functional outcomes, participation, wellbeing, and meaningful everyday life.
A different way to engage in therapy
For many people, sitting and talking is not always the easiest way to engage in therapy. Creative approaches can offer an alternative pathway for reflection, self-expression, learning, and growth. By combining Occupational Therapy with creative and arts-based approaches, sessions can become more engaging, meaningful, and personalised, supporting individuals to build skills, understand themselves more deeply, and participate more fully in the life they want to live.
