Casual Occupational Therapy Assistant
Our Mindful Youth is an Occupational Therapy and Art Therapy clinic that provides therapy supports to children and young people in Geelong and The Bellarine Peninsula, with a focus on emotional wellbeing, social interaction and mental health.
Our Mindful Youth's one on one and group sessions provide young people with a safe space to access programs that promote skill building, creativity, communication and connection. All services aim to empower clients with important skills such as emotional regulation skills, sensory regulation skills and social skills. In promoting these skills in our clients, we increase opportunities for social interaction, a sense of community and belonging, positive experiences at school and at work and time for leisure and self care (to name a few).
About the role
We are currently looking to hire a casual Occupational Therapy Assistant. The Therapy Assistant position provides quality client-focused care following initial prescription and training by the Occupational Therapist. The allied health assistant assists in supporting clients throughout the intervention process; ensuring a holistic approach to the client, their family and carers. The successful applicant will work with a variety of people with mental and/or physical disabilities. We work with clients at their place of preference, whether this is in their home, workplace or other preferred location. However, office space can be made available at Our Mindful Youth when required.
Qualifications and requirements
Minimum Certificate IV Allied Health Assistant or equivalent as 3rd or 4th Year Allied Health Student
Holds a current Victorian Drivers Licence, National Police History Check, and Working With Children Check
Has excellent verbal and written communication skills
Has intermediate knowledge of mental illnesses, cognitive disorders and neurological disorders, and their impact on a client’s function
Has a willingness to extend knowledge of common client diagnosis
Is capable of working alone, directly with an Allied Health Professional, or in teams whilst following a prescribed Occupational Therapy program
Accurately documents client progress and maintains documents as required
Demonstrates a capacity to work flexibly across a broad range of therapeutic and program related activities
Holds Allied Health Practitioner’s insurance, including professional indemnity and public liability cover (this can be obtained with support from Our Mindful Youth following a successful interview).
Knowledge and experience
Has an understanding of what it means to deliver a high level client centred care. Demonstrates skills in providing this level of care.
Has a familiarity with both mental health and disability services
Has sound knowledge of, and demonstrates skills in maintaining privacy and confidentiality and OH&S.
Following direction and education from the Occupational Therapist, can assist in the follow up education of clients both in an individual and group setting
Participates in professional development opportunities
Able to use a range of information technology applications (email, online scheduling programs, Word, Excel etc).

This position is based in Geelong, and the successful applicant will be paid according to the Health Professionals and Support Services Award. The pay rate for a Casual, health professional employee level 1 - pay point 2 is $30.91.
This position is best suited to someone with a flexible schedule that is looking to work around 5 - 10 hours per week.
Role commencing: 14th June 2021 (training day completed beforehand)
