Our Mindful Youth is an Occupational Therapy and Art Therapy clinic that provides therapy supports to children and young people in Geelong and The Bellarine Peninsula, with a focus on emotional wellbeing, social interaction and mental health.

Our Mindful Youth's one on one and group sessions provide young people with a safe space to access programs that promote skill building, creativity, communication and connection. All services aim to empower clients with important skills such as emotional regulation skills, sensory regulation skills and social skills. In promoting these skills in our clients, we  increase opportunities for social interaction, a sense of community and belonging, positive experiences at school and at work and time for leisure and self care (to name a few).

 

 

About the role

 

We are currently looking to hire an Occupational Therapist to provide high quality client-focused care towards empowering and supporting our clients to achieve their personal and/or family's goals. The Occupational Therapist position provides quality client-focused throughout the assessment and intervention process; ensuring a holistic approach to the client, their family and carers. The successful applicant will work with a variety of people with mental and/or physical disabilities. We work with clients at their place of preference, whether this is in their home, workplace or other preferred location. However, office space can be made available at the Our Mindful Youth office when required.

This role requires you to be an independent thinker and autonomous worker. Although you will be directly supervised by lead OT Tessa, and work alongside our Therapy Assistant team and Art Therapist, you will be required to independently facilitate client assessment and intervention within the space best suited to our clients. There is flexibility within this role for you to work a mix of hours at home, within the office and within the community. 

The flexible nature of this role is underpinned by the high importance placed on our staff's sense of work / life balance, and mental health and wellbeing .

Hours: Flexible, Monday to Friday (this will generally be around 10 hours per week)

Remuneration: $90 per hour plus 9.5% superannuation 

Location: Geelong

Reports to: Director and lead Occupational Therapist (Tessa Lloyd)

Your responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based assessments, treatments, and interventions that promote and maintain everyday tasks.

  • Implement a holistic, and person-centered approach, while collaborating with clients, their families, and their care teams.

  • Have knowledge and experience working with neurological and mental health presentations including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Anxiety and Depression.

  • You will hold a case load of around 10 clients seen fortnightly.

  • As an Occupational Therapist you will undertake assessments, planning and intervention, while liaising with participants, carers, families, clinical teams and supports, internal and external stakeholders including family, health and education supports.

  • Utilise a variety of theories and approaches which identity the barriers within a person's social and physical  environment.

  • Practice in the areas of Mental Health, Physical Disability, Early Childhood, Activities of Daily Living, Training, Play therapy, Art Therapy, Nature Therapy, Sensory Modulation, and Exercise.

  • Evaluate progress and outcomes, by using person centred tools and functional observations.

  • Possess exceptional interpersonal skills and have the proven ability to develop and maintain trusting and professional relationships with clients and stakeholders.

  • Ability to write comprehensive reports, progress reports, assessments, therapy plans, recommendations, clinical case notes and reports in line with participant goals and NDIS requirements.

  • Ability to maintain clear records, follow organisational policies and procedures within an expected timeframe.

 

Qualifications and requirements

Must have:

  • Minimum tertiary degree or qualification in Occupational Therapy.

  • At least 2 years experience as a registered Occupational Therapist.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Therapy assessment tools and evidence based intervention strategies.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

  • Current registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)

  • Valid Australian Driver’s License (with full comprehensive insurance)

  • Cleared Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police History Check

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental illnesses, cognitive disorders and neurological disorders, and their impact on a client’s function​

  • Is capable of working alone as well as within a team of Allied Health Professionals

  • Demonstrates a capacity to work flexibly across a broad range of therapeutic and program related activities

  • Holds Allied Health Practitioner’s insurance, including professional indemnity and public liability cover (this can be obtained with support from Our Mindful Youth following a successful interview). 

Knowledge and experience

  • Has an understanding of what it means to deliver a high level client centred care. Demonstrates skills in providing this level of care.

  • Has a familiarity with both mental health and disability services

  • Has sound knowledge of, and demonstrates skills in maintaining privacy and confidentiality and OH&S

  • Participates in professional development opportunities

  • Able to use a range of information technology applications (email, online scheduling programs, Word, Excel etc).
